Ink Diffusion

Today our Star Scientists discovered what happens when you use rubbing alcohol to diffuse ink.  The children cleaned a tile with alcohol.  Then, working very quickly, they dropped, sponged or blew a special ink onto the tile.  The wet ink moves (diffuses) from an area that has a high alcohol concentration to an area with a lower concentration.  Once the alcohol dries, the ink also dries.  The resulting work was incredible!  Some tiles resembled that of Monet's Water Lilies while others resembled the bolder colors of Kandinsky's abstract art.
