Grating marror was great fun (for some of us)

We had a great time today grating marror and then tasting it.  Most of the children tolerated the bitter taste, some loved it, and one really disliked the marror.  Did you notice the homophones? How many more can you think of?

Electricity

This morning, our Star Teacher, Izzi taught us about electricity.  We learned that electricity is an energy that can be obtained from various sources like coal wind and the sun.  Electricity is then conducted (moved) through wires to power our devices etc.  We loved seeing how Izzi used a motor and wires to create a moving robot that was able to draw circles with both dotted and solid lines.  We can't wait to experiment some more with motors and electricity later in the year.

Pesach is coming

It seems like Purim has just ended, but we are already hard at work immersing ourselves in Pesach exploration.  Today, we made our own grape juice.  It was lots of fun smushing the grapes with our bare feet.  The grapes were, smushy, juicy, slippery, sticky and icky to name just a few of Gan Keshet's descriptive words

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Gan Keshet had a wonderful time celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss! The children worked cooperatively to complete two different puzzles based off of different Dr. Seuss books.  They also enjoyed a Smart Board activity where they needed to match the pictures to the correct word endings.  If they were correct, the pictures were gobbled up by the swirling vortex.  If they were incorrect, the vortex would not accept them.  Who knew that green eggs (made with spinach) and Tam Tams with jam could be so delicious?  The highlight of our celebrations though was sharing a special reading time with the 6th graders.  We loved having them read Dr. Seuss books  to us in both English and Hebrew.  We were so thrilled that many of our children showed off their reading skills and took a turn reading as well.

100th Day of School!

100 day activities galore were happening all day.  Our Hershey Kiss hunt was loads of fun!  The children needed to find 100 numbered kisses and place the kisses on the corresponding number on a 100's chart.  When we had filled up the chart, everyone got to enjoy 2 kisses.  The children also enjoyed making a beaded necklace, completing a 100 piece puzzle, dot painting a picture frame with 100 dots, writing a 100 day book and filling a bag with 100 different snack pieces (ten pieces of ten different snacks) to be used for mishloach manot. The children did a great job writing descriptive clues so that their friends could guess what they had brought 100 of to school.  We were especially proud of the children who wrote their own clues and read them to the class. To top off our day, we enjoyed feasting on a cake shaped like the number 100 frosted with vanilla frosting and topped with 100 chocolate chips! Of course the chips were counted by the children.
