To learn about graphing we asked the children to stand by either a picture of a school bus or a car to show how they came to school. It was difficult to determine the number of children who traveled to school when everyone was standing in a small area. After the children sat down, we asked each child how they had arrived at school today. It was also difficult to remember how 19 children came to school. Finally, the children were shown yellow (school bus) and red (car) cubes. They were asked to place one cube near either the car or bus. When these cubes were arranged in a line, it was immediately evident to everyone that more children came to school today by car.
